From childhood Sister Jean dabbled in arts and crafts from woodworking to stained glass to photography to jewelry making. She made her home at St. Rose Convent in 2006 and moved to Villa St. Joseph in 2015 when her health began to fail. Many remember the fun time Sister Jean provided through her Annual Doctor Sister Dean Jean Golf Scramble at the end of each school year at Viterbo University. She made her first profession of vows on August 12, 1954. She was received into the novitiate on August 12, 1946 and was given the name Sister Mary Peter. She attended Mount Carmel Catholic School, which included elementary and secondary classes. From 1995 to 1998, Sister Betty was asked to serve as treasurer for the FSPA Central Region in Hiawatha, Iowa. She lived very simply and felt relationships were more important than material things. She could usually be found volunteering some place at Villa St. Joseph helping other sisters. Her counseling skills aided many as she walked with them through difficult transitions.
